Hello,

We are in need of some Exchange help/advice!!!

We have a windows 2000/2003 domain with 2 domain controllers and 1 2003
exchange server. We installed two new 2003 servers into this domain, one we
made a domain controller and the other an Exchange server.
We are trying to remove the two old domain controllers and the old exchange
server and leave only the new 2003 domain controller and new 2003 exchange
server.

We already built the two new servers and one is a domain controller in the
existing domain and the other is a member server running an instance of
Exchange 2003.
We migrated a mailbox with no problems. Our problem lies here:
When we shut down the two original/old domain controllers we cannot send or
receive mail even with the original/old Exchange server.

What settings are we missing to tell the exchange server to use the new
domain controller we built as the primary domain controller.

We get errors in the Exchange server event log of :

8026 LDAP Bind was unsuccessful on directory server.media.local for
distinguished name ''. Directory returned error:[0x51] Server Down.

8250 The Win32 API call 'DsGetDCNameW' returned error code [0x54b] The
specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. The
service could not be initialized. Make sure that the operating system was
installed properly.

2104 Process STORE.EXE (PID=3560). All the DS Servers in domain are not
responding.

9188 Microsoft Exchange System Attendant failed to read the membership of
group 'cn=Exchange Domain Servers,cn=Users,dc=media,dc=local'. Error code
'8007203a'.

2102 Process MAD.EXE (PID=3180). All Domain Controller Servers in use are
not responding:

server1.media.local

server.media.local

PMSERVER1.media.local

2103 Process MAD.EXE (PID=3180). All Global Catalog Servers in use are not
responding:

server1.media.local

Server1 is an original/old domain controller and PMSERVER1 is the new one we
have installed and need to have the exchange server use for everything.

Once we are successful in sending/receiving mail with the old domain
controllers out of the picture we then want to migrate all the mailboxes, and
public folders. But we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

Thank you,
C. Cipriani

At least one domain controller must be a global catalog server.

Also there are FSMO roles to consider.
