I've build many websites in FP2003 using rollout menus generated by
Macromedia Fireworks (mm_menu.js and a bunch of code on the page that referrs to it.) I'm not expexting this to work in EW. What is the reccomended way to produce a normal rollout site navigation menu (like www.bestbuy.com) in the EW environment? PS. unlike www.bestbuy.com I would prefer a left side navigation with multi tiered navigation for sub chapters too. |

It should work in EW in the same sense that it worked in FP -- may not look like much in design mode, but will work when you send it to the browser. |

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try tomorrow.

You should read this before using the FW menus again -
http://www.losingfight.com/blog/2006...menufw_menujs/ Those menus are poorly conceived and poorly implemented. I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole, especially considering that it's relatively easy to build them manually. Have you had a read of these? Try this - http://www.interlacken.com/winnt/tip...ow.aspx?tip=28 or this - http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/jonspivey/menus/index.html |

Murray thanks for the informative links. I had no idea the Fireworks
menus were so bad. So now I see that when I redo my site using EWD I will need to make CSS generated menus. On Sat, 2 Dec 2006 08:32:08 -0500, "Murray" <forums> wrote: [..] |

(Actually, he was importing rollout menus made in Fireworks that generate .js
scripts. I was just assuring him that if they worked when loaded into FP, then they would still work when loaded into EW.) But good suggestions, I will take a look at them also. I want to learn what guidance exists for making navigation. |

OMG, the approach taken in this one is APPALLING. It uses absolute positioning to make a menu. What a terrible habit to get into. Inflexible, and unnecessary. And way more effort than is needed also. A one-row table with a cell per link and some cell-padding would be much easier, and less rigid. |

Hmm - you're right. I'll have to re-examine that one.
I hate using any positioning unless I absolutely have to.... |

Go to http://projectseven.com and under tutorials get the free CSS Express
menus. Then while you are there drop Al a note and ask him when he's going to offer his Dreamweaver Extensions as Expression Add-ins (if there is an extension or add-in you like for another program ask them when an Expression add-in will be available, let's get those folks on board too.) |

Thanks Cheryl - I downloaded that menu example, and am playing with it.
