Sports announcers and athletes are the worst. If they aren't abusiving
the objective case, they are using the word "Myself" when then they
should be using "I".

How, exactly, does one "abusive" something? ;-)

"Abusiving": Discussing the finer points of abuse.

TripLog has made it to the iPhone AppStore: http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite...3%2526mt%253D8

You need the latest iTunes to see it (version 7.7)

And it looks like someone's commenting on the UI already. See the first
"review". And no, it wasn't me! :)

A guy named Raphael Campardou did a great mock-up as an alternative to
TripLog's UI. Looks great. See how much better things look when you
work within the guidelines of the environment in which you're working?

http://ralovely.com/2008/07/10/20-ye...you-an-expert/

Leaving

the UI as a second, third (or as someone else listed) a fourth thought
or priority is a big mistake.

If good looks is the criteria for a great UI then his mock-up is definitely
superior.

Thanks for the link, I knew it would be a good read when I saw this: "I got
more and more angry. I really think the UI is crap, and having someone
defending and justifying it like that. makes me angry."

I've read many of the comments and links that this has generated and if
nothing else these people are really passionate about their opinion of what
constitutes a great UI. I guess Rick Carter would say they were [..a lot of
people taking "cheap shots" to bolster their own egos, thinking "at least I
know how to do UI design better than this." ] ;-)

It displays OK on my system with version 7.6.029 but says I need to upgrade
to the latest version to purchase applications - that's reason enough for me
to not upgrade. :)

And the beat goes on, of the first 13 reviews, all were harshly critical.
One even said, "This is the most horrible UI in existence." Obviously that
guy has never seen one of my horrible UIs. ;-)

Nick,

We had a football (soccer to you) pundit - an ex pro - who could
conjugate the verb "to done great":
I done great
you done great
the boy done great

I must say though that when I see US athletes being interviewed, I am
far more impressed than when I see our UK sports starts, who seem to
need to say "obviously" and "you know what I mean" at least 3 or 4
times per sentence..

Cheers

Ian

And the young Dutch footballers who can fluently reply to questions in a
press conference in three or four languages - when English footballers
struggle in one.

(Not to mention the several Dutch / German / ... contributors to this
newsgroup whose command of English seems to be better than mine)

Paul,

My wife is Dutch, born in Amsterdam. She came to the USA when she was 22.
And also later lived in Germany for a few years. She was an editor for Springer-Verlag in Germany. Besides Dutch she speaks and writes fluent English, German and some French. Puts me to shame.

Depends... as this joke illustrates:

"Vater hat mir verhauen", schluchzt Ede aus Berlin.
"Mich," verbessert die Mutter.
"Was, dir auch?"

Approximative translation (Mir/mich usually both translate to me in
English and I hope I didn't make more grammar mistakes than are
intentional in this joke :-)

"Father has beaten myself", Ede from Berlin says sobbingly.
"Me", the mother corrects him.
"What, yourself too?"

Always confused me that a sport where the "ball" is carried in the hand
most of the time is called *foot*ball in America.
