Still no input, reposting .. last OP - 07/21/2006
Basically, how do we go about merging the existing help collection with new collection (custom) help (such as the Enterprise Library docs)? Thx --------------------------------------------------------- In the .Net IDE, I can hit F1 (open help) on an Enterprise Library element and it will bring up the Enterprise Library documentation in MSDN (help application). If I just open the MSDN help application external of the .Net IDE, there is no Enterprise Library documentation included. So, how can I go about getting the external MSDN help application to included the Enterprise Library documentation I have on my machine so I can browse it outside of the .Net environment? Thanks, Mythran |

The base MSDN Library already includes content from Enterprise Library (even
if you don't have Enterprise Library installed) so that might be what you're seeing when you hit F1 in the IDE. When you install Enterprise Library, it registers its standalone collection IN ADDITION to the content already included in MSDN Library. In the Contents tree, the version which is included in MSDN Library can be found under: - Enterprise Servers and Development - Enterprise Patterns, Practices, and Architecture - Microsoft Patterns - Application Blocks When you install Enterprise Library, it registers an additional node "Enterprise Library - [Date]" directly under the root of the tree. If you have Enterprise Library installed properly but don't see this node, you probably just need to make it visible in the Combined Help Collection Manager. First verify your installation by launching the Enterprise Library Documentation from Start > Programs > Enterprise Library - [Date] > Enterprise Library Documentation. If it doesn't open from there, then your Enterprise Library needs to be reinstalled first. Once you have verified that it is installed, open the MSDN Library viewer and go to the Combined Help Collection Manager page. In MSDN Library January 2006 and earlier (for Visual Studio .NET 2003), the Combined Help Collection Manager is at: ms-help://MS.VSCC.2003/VSCCCommon/cm/CollectionManager.htm (you can paste this URL in the address box on the toolbar) In the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005 (RTM or May 2006), the Combined Help Collection Manager is at: ms-help://MS.VSCC.v80/dv_vscccommon/local/CollectionManager.htm (in this case, the URL box would be at the top of a tab opened on a page) You should see a list of collections which have been registered. Make sure that you only have one instance of the Help viewer open (this includes the Visual Studio IDE because it embeds the Help viewer). Then check the checkbox for Enterprise Library and click "Update VSCC." "Mythran" <kip_potter> wrote in message news:5084 [..] |

For example, the Enterprise Library help collections. I would like to add these to the base collections that are loaded when I open up the MSDN library outside of the VS.Net IDE. Thanks ;) Mythran |

Yes, I understood that. That's what my answer covered. That's why I was talking about Enterprise Library appearing TWICE in the Contents tree. It appears once for the copy which is part of MSDN Library, and then a second time for the standalone copy you install with EntLib. |

Good question! Somehow you manage to stay polite; you asked the question in a completely clear manner a number of times but got no help from this group. There was a similar problem with the "Managed DirectX" docs a few months back, I never did work out how to integrate it, but then I realized the concept of "Managed" and "DirectX" is a contradiction in terms! The whole point of DirectX is that it's "Direct", not bogged down in silly ..NET wrappers. I have seen the help "collection manager" in old versions of MSDN but not the new VS2005 style. There's a section called "Help on Help" that's supposed to explain this, but it's more like a kids guide. |
