Hey there :)
I (and three fellow students) are working on our final project in our computer science education. We're going to make an interceptor for traffic on PocketPCs, supposed to support a future anti-virus application. More explicitly, we hope to catch inbound traffic on wireless/IR/USB/SMS/GPRS/etc. before running applications "process" it, much like a firewall would do it. None of us have any experience with programming below application level, and we're guessing at something like driver level, or kernel level programming to be needed in order to create this functionality. Problem is, we have no clue as to where to start. Thus, this post to air the question: Have any of you any experience with programming like this, and if so, can you point us in the right direction of where to find litterature, tutorials, code examples, or similarly useful stuff? Thank you very much in advance, Daniel Buus :) |

Pocket PCs are based on WinCE. Get the Platform Builder release that
corresponds to your version of the PPC OS (CE4.0=2003, CE4.2=2003SE, CE5.0=WM5) and there will be examples in <WINCEROOT>\PUBLIC\COMMON\OAK\DRIVERS\NETSAMP\ that might be helpful. However, what you are planning to do is a LOT of work for a small team of complete novices. -MSenne |

On my Axim X50, Start->Settings->About->Version says Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Version 4.21.1088 So I'm quite sure 4.21 = 2003 SE, and pretty sure 4.20 = 2003. And Chris De Herrera's site agrees: http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/wce/versions.htm >CE5.0=WM5) and there will be examples in ><WINCEROOT>\PUBLIC\COMMON\OAK\DRIVERS\NETSAMP\ that might be helpful. > >However, what you are planning to do is a LOT of work for a small team >of complete novices. >-MSenne ----------------------------------------- To reply to me, remove the underscores (_) from my email address (and please indicate which newsgroup and message). Absolutely right. I don't know what I was thinking.
But on that note, does anyone know where to get the 4.2 Platform Builder source? I don't know know how to get the old version from Microsoft and have read on the newsgroups that it can be obtained from some 3rd parties, but I never found one that had PB4.2 up for download or distribution. (My company already had a copy, but only installed now, no source media) -MSenne |

Hey guys, sorry for returning so late :|
Thanks for the replies - as it turns out, we consulted with our advisors, who recommended for us to seek other alternatives because of the complexity and "trial-and-error" nature of the problem area. Our contractors had an alternative assignment (a backup solution), and we have accepted this, and thus the problem "solved" itself ;) Cheers and thanks again, Daniel :) |
