On some of the PCs I use, PowerPoint 2003 will do automatic font switching
from Palatino Linotype to Arial when I attempt to insert characters from the
Latin Extended-A subset. All I can find from Help and online elsewhere is
that "There are some fonts that do not support specific languages." When
one tries to use characters in a font that doesn't have those characters, a
different font will be substituted.

Palatino Linotype, however, is a unicode font and includes the full range of
characters. This font also works on some of the computers I use at work,
and it used to work on my home PC until I upgraded from OfficeXP 2002 to
2003. Palatino Linotype isn't even listed as an option in the "complex
scripts font" pull-down menu under Format Font.

All I can guess is that there's a problem with mapping to this OpenType
font.

Suggestions? Patches?

Thanks.

Without access to the versions of fonts installed on each computer it's hard to
say, but what you might want to do is download the Font Properties Extension at

http://www.microsoft.com/typography/...roperty21.mspx

This'll let you rightclick on the font on both systems and learn pretty much
all there is to know about it.
