I was told that I could have the same task in two places. I can not figure
out how to do this. I have a project organized by objectives and I need to put the same taks under two categories. I want them to be the same tasks that update at the same time. Is this possible? |

I don't know of anyway to do this. You can have the same task "name" in two
places, but they are independent tasks and are treated separately and will not be in sync automatically when one get updated. "Erica" <Erica> wrote in message news:fe2e [..] |

Hi Erica,
Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :-) As long as you're only talking about Duration being in sync, a hammock might work. Please see FAQ Item: 19. Hammock Tasks. FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :-) Mike Glen Project MVP "Joe" <joeg10> wrote in message news:4616 [..] |

The problem is organizing the task list by objectives. Project is based on
the assumption that you are using a true WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) to organize the task list. That is, the structure is organized by deliverables decomposed to finer and finer levels of detail until you get down to the level that a task represents a single observable physical activity extending over a measurable period of time representing work performed by a specific resource or group of resources resulting in the creation of a specific quantifiable deliverable. Thus you can have "Paint Wall" occuring any number of times in the Project but each time it appears it represents a different wall being painted. Painting a specific wall will typically only occur once in the plan (unless it gets a coat of paint and then sometime later on gets another coat and they have to be scheduled as two tasks for some reason). |

If you want the same task in two different places simultaneously then
that doesn't really make sense. However, you can change the sort order or grouping of tasks. Is that what you actually mean? Different groupings or sortings will then move your task in whichever view you have applied. Joe wrote: [..] |
