How do I enable the "Local Cache Settings" and "Cleanup Cache" settings under
the Tools->Local Project Cache menu option in Project Pro '07? I'd like to run "Cleanup Cache", but the only option that is enabled is the "View Status" option (and that's only enabled when I have a project open). Thanks much, all you Project Gurus! |

This probably sounds like a silly question, but did you create a login account in Project Professional with which to log into Project Server? If you did not do this, you are running the software in desktop application mode only, rather than enterprsie mode. Refer to the following FAQ if you did not create a login account: http://www.projectserverexperts.com/...ginAccount.htm Hope this helps. |

Thanks for replying.
Yes, I am connected to the server. I can open projects that have been saved to Project Server, and when I publish projects, I see them in PWA. Is there something else I might need to do? "Dale Howard [MVP]" wrote: [..] |

I'm stumped. I have not run into this issue previously and cannot duplicate your problem. Perhaps someone else has an idea for you. Sorry I can't be of more help. |

Another silly question.... Have you ever saved a project from Project Pro
under your Windows user account on that machine before? If not, then your cache is empty, but I'm not sure if that actually has anything to do with it. Just thought I'd throw that out there. |

One workaround to try is to clear out all the cache files on the local
machine (not recommended if you are having mission critical projects, since you may accidentally remove them). Steps below: 1) Make sure you checkin all project changes you have made from your machine. Wait for the checkins to go through. 2) Close Project Professional 3) Go to %appdata%\microsoft\ms project. Delete the folder named "Cache". Just delete it so that it is available in the recycle bin if you need it - do not permanently delete it. 4) Open Project Professional again and see if the "Cleanup Cache" menu option is enabled. |

Note that what I suggest below kind of defeats the purpose - you want to
cleanup cache using the option in Project Professional (which is the recommended way), and I am detailing steps for a manual way to do it. But do see if the 'Cache cleanup' option comes back on after you cleanup the cache files manually. |

Well, this didn't enable the local cache menu item, but it did effectively
clear my cache, so thanks! "Pradeep GanapathyRaj [MSFT]" wrote: [..] |

Thanks for answering my post.
Yes, I had saved a project on that machine, but it's a good thought. Pradeep's suggestion (below) effectively cleared my cache, but I'd still like to find out why my menu option isn't available, if possible. I tried uninstalling/re-installing Project, but that didn't seem to help either. --tfz "Sharry Heberer [MSFT]" wrote: [..] |
