I have an existing list with data (portal site is MOSS2007 and has been
migrated from WSSv2) with no content types. I would like to use existing fields to form new different content types. Every reference to content types I found so far is regarding creating new content types based on the existing ones. We have no existing ones. As said we have a list with a list definition and would like to use that fields to form new content type and from then on additional content types. Have been unable to find any information on this by searching or inspecting MSDN/TechNet materials.. Also in the same context is how to use existing fields (Columns) on a list and convert them into Site Columns? Any suggestions? thank you, regards |

Just solved that myself and it actually is supported by design. If it
interests you read on: 1) Create content type at site level using Element as its base type for each content type you need in a list, make it empty or use include some site level columns if neccessary, 2) Create new content type inside the list based on the content type you created at site level - this is neccessary because you can only add one instance of a certain site level content type to the list, 3) Add columns/fields that already exist in a list definition - this works 100%, 4) You should have one default content type in your lists that was left from your current content, 5) If you are trying to rearrange content between content types in a certain list you have to edit each item and select the desired content type. I'm now left with investigating how step 5 could be done programatically and so far I think it will go using SPListItem.ContentType property. Hope it helps anyone elses best regards "markoh" <markoh> wrote in message news:b946 [..] |
