One large MOSS 2007 farm or 3,4 smaller MOSS 2007 farms?

Hi,

I am currently planning a large MOSS 2007 environment with all kind of
functions included. (E.g. intranet, extranet, internet, MySites,
partner-sites, etc.)

Since this will be to large to manage (I assume), I'm looking for a way to
split this environment into 3 or 4 smaller sections. So, one section could be
dedicated to MySites only, but how to keep the integration with al the
features in other farms in place?

Can anyone point my the direction the go?

Assuming everything is in one physical location then you can create multiple
web applications for content such as MySites. You can use Extended Web
applications to allow external users authenticating to internal content and
create another farm for Internet facing sites in the DMZ and use content
publishing to surface content from the internal sites to the internet facing
farm.
This is just one example of how you could approach this.
