Hi,

Is it possible to display dates as yesterday, today or tomorrow
instead of numeric dates in a list view? Thanks.

You have to use calculated fields.
Check this link:

Thanks but I don't think this will answer my problem since the TODAY
system variable containing today's date and time cannot be used in
calculated fields in Sharepoint lists. How can you compare a date to
today's date in a formula if today's date cannot be used in a formula?
(Today's date can only be used in filters in Sharepoint)

Create a single line of text field name it "Today" replace fields in formula
with "today" and after completion delete Today field you created first.
By this way you can compare your date with today's date. This is useful in
case you want to mention "x Days Old" for an item.

This does not work, the today field is never updated with today's
date.

Ok. I donno how you've created and what you exactly did. But this is an
examined way. You have to create a single line of text field with "TODAY"
name and after creating calculated field and applying formula you have to
delete "TODAY" field. It does work.

It does show today's date, but only today... Come back tomorow and
your today field will show yesterday's date, which is not the goal I
was after.

well, I think I didn't get what you need...
Could you exactly describe what's your goal?

I want to display dates in a Sharepoint list either as a numerical
date, let's say for example "5/4/2008" when that date is not today,
and as the word "today" when that date is today.

Ok, I got it. There's one problem for this, We have to hold a text value and
a date value in same field. It means two diffrent data type in one field.
holding a date value in a text field will convert date to date serial
number. For example serial number for 6/4/2008 will be 39603. So we can't
hold a text value and a date value in just one field.
By the way, there may be another ways, which I have no idea about them.

Actualy, the purpose is not to hold a date value in a field, but to
display (and not to store) that date from a field value. It would be
more a calculated column I was thinking of, but it does not seem
possible in Sharepoint, contrary to almost every other piece of
software I know, to know what is today's date and time. There is a
variable in Sharepoint called TODAY, but weird enough, it cannot be
used in calculated fields, which makes it almost useless, I do not
know the reason, but what I was after if a way to overcome this
limitation.

I wish I could help, but have no idea. Just one way that I have not tested,
but may be creating a custom field definition solve this limitation.
