Dear MS,
I have successfully installed Bart PE builder. I have also created WIndows PE image using the Bart's PE Builder. I am using Virtual PC(from Microsoft) to launch PE image(developed using Bart's PE builder) in the same host machine(just like simulator). I have unable to share data(could be a file or folder or drive itself) between HOST(Windows XP Pro) and GUEST(PE running on Virtual PC). My requirement is, I want to test a small "Hello World" GUI application (developed using Win32 API's in Visual Studio) in PE environment. In fact, I tried using "Virtual PC Additions" (Followed the method suggested by Microsoft...see below) to share the data. After the guest OS is installed, 1. Drop down the 'Action' menu on the left of the guest's menu bar 2. Select "Install or Update Virtual Machine Additions". But nothing happened. There is "VMAdditions.iso" file in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Virtual PC Trial\Virtual Machine Additions". I don't know how to installmount(Give me the command line..if u know how to) this '.iso' manually using Virtual PC. Does anyone give me alternatives/pointers to solve this?? thanks in advance, rgds, Hemant |

Look in the autorun.inf file in the root folder, it shows you what program is run ( <CD>:\windows\setup.exe i think) [..] |

You cannot install the VPC additions that way. The VPC additions make
modifcations to your registry and to the SYSTEM32 and Drivers directory. Since these are Read Only on the CD you cannot install the additions onto the CD after you have already compiled your BartPE. You need to include the addition onto your BartPE CD while building it. It's probably not very hard to do. I've includded the Vmware additions onto my BartPE and they work fine for me in Vmware....the process is undoubtedly similar to what you need to do for BartPE. If your not familliar with including drivers/programs onto your BartPE CD then I recommend you download the Vmware additions plugin for BartPE and taking a look at that to get a "feel" for how to do so for the VPC additions. I could probably get the BartPE additions up and running in a matter of minutes in BartPE but I'm not really interested in doing so...so don't ask me. :) |
