Hi,
I've installed VS2005 on a fresh Win Server 2003 Enterprise SP1, which is a domain server. As a guest VM I've also installed Win Server 2003 Enterprise with a fixed IP address, and it is also joined to the host's domain. I operate the guest from another PC over the network (VMRC). When I try to do some file access (map a drive or try to execute any file) from the guest to the host's shared folders, I suddenly loose all network contact with the host (and also the guest loses contact to the host). Now I can only access the Win Server host from it's keybard and screen. The only way for the host to get any network to work, is to reboot it (I shut down the guest nicely from the host before). I can't see any kind of error event messages on the host about this. The server hardware is a DELL PowerEdge SC420. Thanks in advance for any hint, Christian |

Did you try using a dynamic or a new static mac address for the guest's
virtual nic? "Christian Wahlgren" wrote: [..] |

Hi again,
I didn't specify anything about the mac address, but I saw now that the guest's mac is Not identical to the host's mac address. And they both have different static IP addresses. Again, everything is fine as long as I only browse the host's folders and files, but not read the content of a file or execute any file on the host's shared folders. And I can execute files from other computers' shared folders on the LAN from the guest VM without problem. Regards, Christian "Aaron" wrote: [..] |

The reverse action (file access, file copy etc) from host to guest VM's
shared folders also causes the host to loose all network communications. - Christian "Christian Wahlgren" wrote: [..] |

I was having the same problem. I thought it might be a hardware problem so I
switched to a different computer. Only this time, I had one Gigabyte LAN dedicated to the host o/s and the other Gigabyte LAN dedicated to virtual server. I've been able to copy files without a problem. When time permits, I'm going to try that on the original computer to see if that was the problem afterall. BTW, I use W2K3EE SP1 as both the host and guest. "Christian Wahlgren" wrote: [..] |
