I wonder if what I am experiencing is normal. I have a windows 2000 server
that runs small websites, a mail server, and acts as a file server for my small home network. It is configured as a domain controller and connected to the Internet behind a Netgear Router/Hub and ADSL Modem. I don't experience any problems when running this server but when I have to re-boot it for any reason it seems to take an inordinate amount of time. Here is what I see when I ask for a restart (approximate times): Saving your settings 1:45 Windows is shutting down 2:45 Blank screen :10 BIOS stuff - very quick Windows 2000 Server Family logo 1:15 Windows is starting up :20 Perparing network connections 1:30 + :15 Finally ready to login. A total of about 9 minutes to shutdown and restart. This seems like it is too long -- Jack Suddards jack |

The hardware configuration plays important role in time taken in restart.
I think the speed is normal. You can improve the speed by using the more memory and fast disk system Please use performance tool to measure the speed of disk. Since it is domain controller it takes time during startup ( at preparing network connection) Use below link to reduce the time taken in shutdown http://support.microsoft.com/default...&Product=win20 00 Subbu This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. |
