I have a Linksys Media Center Extender (wmce54g) and am trying to make a
connection wirelessly (Linksys Wireless G router) to desktop Media Center PC. Message on screen remains says, "Connecting to Media Center PC..." and then displays the following error message: The connection between the Media Center Extender and the Media Center PC was lost due to one of the following reasons (error code: 00020002): - The PC has been shut down, is on standby, or is hibernating. Turn the PC back on or bring it out of standby orhibernation. - The PC is in heavy use or is busy processing information. Try connecting again when the PC is not busy. I saw a suggestion to check the Application, System, and Security Event Viewer logs and did that. Here's what I found: Applicaiton error: Unauthorized window was detect while running the Media Center Experience, 'McAfee Privacy Service', with file name 'C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\Shared\mghtml.exe'. Security - no error System error: Unable to start a DCOM Server: {F3A614DC-ABE0-11D2-A441-00C04F795683}. The error: "The system cannot find the file specified. " Happened while starting this command: C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe -Embedding Unfortunately, I'm not tech savvy enough to know what to do about these errors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Found @ http://www.dougknox.com/xpmce/index.htm "McAfee's Privacy Service is currently known to cause problems with the Media Center Extender's ability to connect to the Media Center host PC. It can also prevent the Media Center PC from being able to download the data for the Electronic Program Guide. At this time, there is no work around. The only fix is to uninstall McAfee's Privacy Service." (Courtesy MVP Doug Knox) and while this relates to XBOX as an extender the result is the same; "If you install McAfee Privacy Service after you set up a Windows Media Center Extender on a Windows Media Center-based computer, you cannot establish a connection between the Windows Media Center Extender and the Windows Media Center-based computer." http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912502 Seems Media center and McAfee's Privacy Service don't get along. |
