Hi,
Evaluating MS for an internet startup infrastructure, I have the following
questions for the experts:

1. Windows 2003 Web edition. USD 399. Should one add a USD 1,999 connector
license or is it already included in that version?
For Web farms, no clustering is required, only NLB & file replication right?

2. SQL Server 2005 clustering. Is a Windows Server enterprise edition
required to cluster SQL 2005 Servers? Does one need a connector license for
Windows? For SQL? Would replication & NLB work better for an internet company
as the useage would probably be 95% querying, 5% inserting/updating?

3. Are there any well known big Ecommerce / database driven websites using
MS products or are they all on Linux?

Thanks

Call MS on licensing stuff, if varies to widely.

1. Correct for the Web farm.
2. Windows Server Enterprise Edition and SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition.
SQL does not support NLB, do that with your web farm front-end, Cluster SQL
at the back end.
3. Tons. Again, ask MS when you call them, I am sure the sales person will
tell you a ton.

Cheers,

Rod
