It's my intention to separate my data from the OS by making a move to
another partition. The question in my mind is, move only the documents folder, or is there more that should be moved also? TIA. |

I don't say this necessarily to discourage you from doing it, but to point out that you should have a clear understanding of why you want to do that. The question you ask in your next sentence suggests that you don't have such a clear understanding. > The question in my mind is, move only the documents > folder, or is there more that should be moved also? TIA. There is no "should." The question is how you want to organize your drive(s). Read this article I recently wrote for some information that may help you decide how to make your partitioning choices: "Understanding Disk Partitioning" at http://www.computorcompanion.com/LPMArticle.asp?ID=326 |

The link you sent made a good read. Forgive me for not being more succinct in my post, but the change I envision is actually part of my backup regimen. I have 4 HDD's, for a total of 1Tb. 1 internal, and 3 external. I want my OS in the internal (C), my data on 1 external, and my backup (disk image and incrementals) on the other 2 externals alternatively. The 2 backup drives are left disconnected and put away in a safe place. I understand what you are saying about a persons sense of organization. I came to this idea through reading about the subject on various forums including these Vista NG's and I may be wrong, but I had the distinct impression that this type of organization was accepted as a good idea. |
