To address point B....Of course. That is what _everyone_ wants. A PC that
runs smoothly all the time, installs and runs every program with ease,
never suffers a hardware failure, etc. I myself know that that is not
possible.

Back in the day, in order to have a PC, you had to know how it worked to
be able to maintain it. You would build them youself from mail order
component house to save 1/2 of the cost of buying a fully built system.
Keyboard were $40 or $50 and RAM back in the 2/386 days was $60/meg. So
you knew how everything worked and was easily fixable. If you had a PC,
you were a geek.

With the PC & Internet explosion, all of that changed when Mom & Dad
wanted one, Uncle Bob & Aunt Lucy too. People that didn't have an
technical interest in computers suddenly wanted to use them. They didn't
want to learn to fix them, or install an OS, they just wanted to turn it
on and use it, and have it worked. All the time. Just like your car. You
want your car to work, all the time. You're cell phone, anything.

The MS advertising campaign's want to push that image, obviously, and
those people that aren't 'geeks', or into 'the scene' see the 'WOW!'
commercials, and claims of being the best OS ever, much more secure, new
features, a beautiful new UI. I knows lots of people that still haven't
yet owned their own PC.

So what will they expect if they by their first PC with pre-installed
Vista, from an OEM that loaded all their crap on it ? They will expect it
to work. They have no experience with owning a PC, maybe they use one at
work, but that might not mean anything more than sending e-mail or typing
Word documents for some people. Work has an IT department.

So I guess my point is that you can't fault someone that is not computer
saavy for expecting it to just work, all the time.

Heaven forbid one would have an OS without WPA and WGA. Heaven forbid
one would have an OS that isn't nearly as virus or malware prone as
Windows. Heaven forbid ...

Why, pray tell, is Ubuntu bad for you? This should be good.

He's just checking on how you're making out with recovering from your brain
injury. Looks like you're still a long way from a full recovery.

Cheers.
