You conveniently "forgot" to mention the last paragraph of that
article:

Yes, not all major organizations or government agencies have adopted
Vista yet, but Vista has only been around for about a year now. Give it
time, and Vista will be the OS of choice for nearly everyone.

I must doubt anybody's claim that a new OS is crap simply because the
whole world doesn't adopt it right away. It takes some companies years
to switch from one OS to another.

One of the major banks in my country has only just now switched from
Windows NT 4.0 to Windows XP (actually, a little over 1 year ago) for
all their branch terminals, for pity's sake!

The decision to take that long to switch is influenced by a number of
factors, of which I think the most important are cost, compatibility,
ease of deployment, security and user training.

Slow uptake by major players doesn't make it crap.

If you like to know what Windows Vista can and can't do for you, I suggest
you take a class or course, or just give it a sincere try for yourself. I'm
sorry to say, but proving or disproving Vista's qualities is way beyond the
scope of a newsgroup posting. It's also something you have to put work into
figuring out yourself.

If you would be so kind to provide sources for the rather sensational claims
that have been presented in this thread, instead of questioning my gender and
intellectual capacities, it would be much appreciated.

That I find less hard to believe, and I'll take your word for it.

There is nothing spectacular about companies being careful when adopting a
new OS, they have to take both legacy software and new hard- and software
investments into account first.

What I'm more sceptic about, and would like to see some sources on, is Mai
Chai Lyn's sensational claims about professionals in all fields advising
against deploying Vista because of the supposed lack of quality of this new
OS (not financial and investment considerations and so on).

Thank you for that information. I couldn't find the sources myself by web
searching, would you be so kind to point me in the right direction?

Also, do you know whether General Motors has given up on Vista altogether,
or have they just delayed deployment like the Congressional IT department you
mentioned? I don't find this nearly as remarkable as the original claims in
this thread about companies and IT pros binning Vista permanently, though.

None of your business, Frank, or whatever your real name is.

Sorry, but lambs don't turn me on. Are you referring to your significant

There's nothing for me to turn myself in for and you are just making up
lies left and right. Explain how I just got my passport renewed if I am
wanted by the law. This should be good.

Here's my 2c worth:

I've been a professional in my field for close on 20 years now, and
this is my recomendation: Larger corporations should wait, as they
always have with new OS releases, and should use their time to properly
gauge the impact that the change will have on productivity. Deploying a
new OS on even a modest network of 20 or so PCs is a daunting task,
because we have to deal with more than just installing a new OS and
software. There's the cost involved of the actual deployment,
implementing network policies, updated hardware. and user training. If
you factor in all those things, the costs increase exponentially with
large networks.

Home users that have only one PC, or perhaps a small network of 2 or 3
PCs should change to Vista because it does have more efficient security
than XP, and provides a greater level of control over what happens on
those PCs. Home users that do not have dedicated IT staff to implement
security policies or maintain rock-solid firewalls are prime
distribution points for viruses and malware. Vista Security aims to
reduce that threat.

I'm not sure on which forum I mentioned it, but I've stated clearly
that while Vista's security and stability is a vast improvement over
that of XP, it's not enough. But it IS better than its ever been. If
anyone here is from Microsoft, and is working on Windows Seven, then
make the note that I'd like to see even more stringent security measures
implemented in Windows Seven.

Perhaps a user account similar to the current Vista "Limited User" that
requires a Admin password in UAC prompts, but where even options such as
"Run As Administrator" cannot be accessed without logging off and
logging back on AS an administrator.

Thank you for that link, DanS.

Seemingly, some federal agencies have decided not to deploy Vista because of
cost, compatibility and hardware concerns. This fact I find no reason to
question. But it certainly doesn't back up Mai Chai Lyn's opinions about
Vista not getting deployed on the reason of being an inferior OS. Even the
author of the article appears to think Vista will become the standard in a
few years.
