See the illustration here:

Well I have no idea what the cause of your problem might be, but I can
offer you a faster way of shutting down your computer. First of all click "Start" and then open "Computer". Then click the "Tools" menu and go to "Folder Options". Then go to the "View" tab and make sure that there is not a check in the "Hide Extensions For Known File Types" check box. Next right click your "Desktop" and select "New" and then "Text Document". Then in the text document type "shutdown -s" and save the document. Then right click the text document that you just saved, and click "Rename". Change the (.txt) to (.bat). This will create a batch file on your desktop that should shut down your computer when you double click/open it. Let me know if this helps you/works. Derik motiok wrote: [..] |

Hi Motiok, This tutorial will show you how to change the Vista Start menu and Case power button to what you want when it is pressed. See the related links if you would like to create a desktop shortcut for these options as well. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/68...er-button.html Hope this helps, Shawn |

Im actually confused, are u saying that there is not button on your
start menu, if so then my idea will work. if you are saying that there is a button, but it doesnt shutdown and it puts the computer to sleep then you need to go with richard g. harper's reply. motiok wrote: [..] |

I have a slightly more permanent solution to the "shortcut" given by Derik: - Open "Control Panel" - Click "Hardware and Sound" - Click "Power Options" - Under your selcted power plan, click "Change plan settings" - Click "Change advanced power settings" - Expand "Power buttons and lid" entry - Expand the "Start menu power button" - Change the "Setting" to "Shutdown" by selecting it from the drop down box. - Click OK - Click CancelSee the screenshot for details: [image: http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/e...erOptions.jpg] If you regularly change your power plan, you might want to do this for all power options - "Balanced", "Power Saver" and "High Performance". The above will work for a Desktop computer also, which oddly enough also uses "Standby" as the default shutdown button on the start menu. Please report back on this so that I know if the above has worked for you or not. |
