I am running Vista x64 with SP1 on a clean install. I have been running
XP. Unlike others that have posted I am finding Vista takes a tad longer to boot but really seems to take longer to shutdown. I have followed the tutorials and have made the registry adjustments to 'correct' these problems. They don't seem to be making that much of a difference when compared to XP boot and shutdown times. Is/are there any other tricks available to shorten both of these times. PS. All drivers are 64 bit, 4 gig mem, 500 gig hard drive, AMD 64x2 4400 processor, MSI motherboard. Thanks.... |

Welcome to the Vista Forums  In addition to the registry tweaks, I've also implemented readyboost, which really cut down on my shutdown and startup times. I'm using 4 GB of DDR2 800 Ram and a 4 GB readyboost USB drive. Maybe this might help you too. Here's how to set up readyboost: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/81381-readyboost.html I hope this helps. |

Why shut down? Sleep doesn't take long to turn off, and after hitting the
spacebar I am running with full functionality (including wireless network) in less than 10 seconds. Just curious: I can see the desire for a quick boot time, but why the concern with shutdown? I hit the button and walk away... I don't really care how long it takes. :) "speedracer" wrote: [..] |
