Lol. Maybe if you think Photoshop is the alpha and omega of
computer software.

Wanna try and build a 128 node parallel processing machine on
Vista?

Ah yes, ad populum. Now there's an example of a rational mind
at work. If all your friends jumped off the roof would you jump off the
roof too?

It won't run the majority of popular windows programs. It runs
the majority of popular linux programs just fine.

That's strange. All of the scanjet series are officially supported.

The reason you don't see linux viruses isn't the "small"
installed base. It's that the security model makes compromise
more difficult. In order for a linux virus to work you'd need to
be able to run arbitrary code remotely as an authenticated local user
with sufficient privileges to cause havoc. There *have* been such
exploits but I can count them on one hand.

No, of course not. Window's users don't try something "just because they
can."

Uh, that would depend on whether the overwhelming evidence of safety exists,
how much enjoyment there was to be had, the cost of the project, the
consequenses of NOT jumping (shunning, for example), and a host of other
issues.

"Jumping off the roof" is not as clear-cut a disaster as using Ubuntu.

Don't know.

But it was virused before it's release.

Don't really know the answer. But Vista was virused before it's release.
And fell during a recent hacker challenge. The first known Vista virus:

http://www.crime-research.org/news/05.08.2005/1407/

So the question isn't if, but of how many.

How can you be so rational about jumping off the roof, and
so completely thoughtless about what your keyboard is plugged into?
How can you so completely worship a giant corporations' cynical abuse
of its customers as life support for Microsft (tm) wallets? Don't
feed me that neo-con crap about how all a corporation needs to care about
is its stock price. Its half of the contract is to provide the value
paid for.

Which vista does not.

Of course it is. There are now more linux distros than there are actual
linux users.
IOW's, nobody really gives a shit about linux for the desktop.
It's not worth using and not worth exploiting.

And there are substitutes for it on Linux.

Never happen for real. Certainly, even if you put 12800 Vista in the
cluster it wouldn't make the top500. It would be a CF for sure. Network
and disk bottlenecks would preclude Vista from even entering any meaningful
large scale parallel processing.

[url down]

But does look like Microsoft has crept up the list. At position 116 you can
find the top Windows entry. Right behind 115 Linux/UNIX systems. W2003
Compute Cluster from Dell. 2048 processors and submitted by "Industry".
Which means no one is actually using it as configured. A vendor entry for
sales.

You can find the similar Dell hardware up at position 110 but only with 1760
processors, 288 fewer than above but rnning Linux. It is ranked higher and
someone is actually using it.

Pretty safe to say that Vista would lucky to be a dumb terminal in the
top500.

There are a lot of people who do follow Microsoft like the Pied Piper.
