After a little more digging, I see that the Vista LiveCD is fake !!!

I should have known by the size, as you pointed out, and done the digging
before I mentioned it.

And driver updates, application updates, library updates.

(Was just listening to guy at work telling me about a couple of friends'
machines losing some functionality due to up-yours^Wdates. Been there,
done that.)

But it can happen even in Debian (though it hasn't happened to my
boxes).

Now now, there is no place for common sense, apparently in this
newsgroup. My copy of XP will work just fine after June 30th. Heck, I
had a computer around here last year that still ran WFW 3.11 It still
worked fine. As for "forcing people" to use Vista, no one is forced to
that and it sure doesn't mean they HAVE to go use Linux or Mac. (Heck,
why on Earth would anyone WANT to?)
