I'm running Vista x64 on a Dell D630 with 4GB RAM (max allowed). Over time
(a day, maybe two) available ram drops to the point where the system
complains that i have to quit apps to free up memory. I quit the only thing
that's running (Firefox) and that doesn't seem to free up anything
significant. I need to reboot to get my RAM back.

anyone else seen this behavior?

Only when I once deleted my page file to see what would happen.

Do you know how to check yours?

Are you running any antivirus or other 3rd party security programs? Some
extensions for Firefox are known to cause this as well.

Firefox 2 has known memory leaks.

Hi,

If, as has been suggested, the problem lies with Firefox, then closing it
will not resolve the problem. A "leak" is actually the opposite thing, the
program does not release memory that it's no longer using. Only by rebooting
are the handles released.

In addition to not releasing memory, Firefox has been known to give your cat
warts. If you don't have a cat, you should be okay on that front.

You need a new one... this one is really old.

And about the releasing of memory, that's been fixed in 3.0
