Use some of Sysinternals' free tools to determine what each svchost.exe
process is connected with. Process Explorer should show you that:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...s/default.mspx

You can kill Windows Search thru services.msc.
Will free up a little RAM.
How much RAM you got ?

If you don't have 2 GB, its gonna be tough.

Vista with Memory less than 2GB and no body informed about this to the
unsuspecting customers. Its a rip off of a high degree.

I have 11 running.
If you tried the link that Malke provided to Process Explorer...it shows the
processes running in them, will help you determine if they are MS
processes.Also, you can kill some, like print spooler.

You can use Process Explorer and go look at what each SVCHost.exe is
hosting. Also, if SVChost.exe is not running out of the Windows\system32
folder, then it's a trojan.

PE is being explained in the link.

<http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles/Hidden_Backdoors_Trojan_Horses_and_Rootkit_Tools_i n_a_Windows_Environment.html>
<http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx>

You can go to a line in the upper or lower pane, right-click it and go
to Properties.
