I'm not really a gamer but spend LONG hrs in front of a
PC and setting at a desk chair doesn't get it.

Curious what kind of physical setup you gamers like for
extended hrs at a PC or game console?

Do you like to set on the couch, back abt 10 feet form
the display and such? Or do you use a special
'recliner" for this?

been seriously think abt hooking my PC up to a big HDTV
and using that as a display and setting on the couch.
Will that work?

Health and safety-wise it's not advisable to stay static in any one position
for any length of time regardless of what chair you use, the human body is
designed to move. Nor is it a good idea to use keyboards or game controls
for long hours as that is the basis of "repetitive strain injury".

Take it from someone who knows and is paying the price for such "LONG hrs in
front of a PC"

Understood!!

But I need something more ergonomic than a table and
desk chair where I prop my feet on the table!! Talk
abt UN ergonomic!!

What happened to you? Care to expand?

I have a comfy chair for my PC. Tall back, arm rests. The only thing I
don't like about it is that it also reclines and can't be locked into an
upright position.

However, the reclining part makes it nice for watching the TV or playing
console games.

We also have a couch in front of the TV, but I've yet to find a
comfortable position on it that doesn't give me a sore neck after about an
hour or so. Ideally, I'd like to be able to recline while facing the TV.
That's how I had my bedroom setup when I was still in an apartment as a
bachelor.

Of course, it's always important to get up and stretch a bit every hour or
so.

I worked for a living on pc's and the work was often so intensive I didn't
get up and move about very often, then I came home and played games, helped
people with tech problems on the internet (still do to a much more limited
level) and chatted online. Basically now my core muscles are shot and I'm
going to have chronic pain for the rest of my life. I had to give up full
time work 18 months ago and am only just getting back to a level where I
might be able to do some part time work, which I'm seeking through the
disabilies to work programs. You may say it's an extreme case but it all
started with stiff legs when you get up, slightly aching back, neck etc...
Physio's and GP's know it's the fastest rising medical problem bar none in
the developed world but, as it was said to me by a GP and sports injury
specialist, "it's not widely publicised enough because it's not high profile
like heart disease or cancer but more people suffer from it and more
employers lose money from it any year than any other problem. Basically
we've become a lazy nation of remote control, fast food and convenience."

I say again the human body is designed to move, it's designed to work, we
have masses of muscles all designed for a function and it's either use them
or lose them.

I love racing games (primarily Forza Motorsport 2) on the Xbox 360, and a
few years ago my wife (bless her!) gifted me with one of these -
http://www.humantouch.com/ht-125.html - for
my birthday/Christmas. Mine is an earlier model, but I thoroughly enjoy it
and find it very comfortable. The "foot rest" portion flips over and has
two places in which you can put your feet/calves for a "treatment." I use
it that way because I have a Microsoft Wireless Wheel for the racing game.

Pricing can be a big stiff, but you can find "used" or "reconditioned" ones
which are just as good for 1/3 or 1/2 the price of a newer model.

I'm worried abt this as well..... hence the question on
out of box thinking on using a computer

I have thought abt a few ways to use one:

1) Hook it up to BIG HDTV in front room and set on
couch 8 feet away and use it.

2) Make or buy some kind of "recumbent" type cage or
chair where you set in reclining position and the box
is behind you but the monitor is mounted on an "arm "
in front of you. Like this in link

http://www.gadgetgrid.com/2007/07/13...tx-game-chair/

3) Use it with a SRAND Up desk like this. see link

Herman Miller Aeron. Nothing else comes close for comfort and adjustability.

Unfortunately nothing else comes close in price too :-(

Luckily I blagged mine at the end of the last dot com crash from a bankrupt
company :-)

Can usually be had on ebay for £250-£350, but you'll be collecting it as
they're very heavy!

Well, it is never too late to get up and move. You can always build core muscles, or any muscles as far as that is concerned. Haven't you ever seen that show, "Biggest Loser". Do you think those people have core muscle issues?

Get off the couch, exercise and you can still game. I do.
