Hi,

I was working in a software development environment debugging a routine. I
had not saved the code that I had changed at all.

All of a sudden, Windows pops up a message that my computer will be
restarted in 5 minutes (and keeps counting down...). There Restart Later
button is not available.

I didn't want to have to set up my debug session again, so I decided to
ignore that, thinking it would either let me cancel the restart later or at
least not restart as long as program that is running has a dialog box open.

No such luck! Windows forcefully closed my debugging environment, even
though there was a Save dialog box open and waiting for user input!

I lost one hour of debugging time, my project changes, and a lot of hair!

What kind of non-sense is this? I will determine when to restart my
computer!

Sounds perhaps like you have your set up to automatically download and
install Windows Updates. I had this same thing happen to me with the 5
minute count down. Or you clicked on the change or ID Network button and
gave you this annoying no-option bit which is what happened to me. I agree,
I wasn't too happy with it either with constantly clicking on that 5 minute
warning banger until I was ready to restart. Lousy design on this one.

That's what you get for trusting MS to update your OS automatically,
instead of doing it yourself.

Robin:

Thanks for the compassion ;o) At least you were able to click on the button,
I wasn't!
