FYI,
Anyone used the "Untangle" (previously Metavize) product? Was forwarded the article linked below by one of my techs and seems like something I'll look into as there are a couple of clients small enough where it might be appropriate. Apparently businesses 10 users and less can use it free now. I'm most curious about its ease of interoperation with SBS components so if you have any experience with that in particular I'd love to hear it. Article was here: [url down] Their site is here: http://www.untangle.com (note that I have no affiliation of any kind to them, monetarily or otherwise.nor an opinion for that matter....but free is free, and it got my attention) Matt Ridings - MSR Consulting |

It looks Interesting. Especially for under 10 users.
I played with the online demo, figuring out port forwarding was a little odd. (I didn't see how to add Custom ports but I didn't play that long with it.) For other Free Firewalls. There is IPCOP.org and it has plugging to install that do the same thing. And SmoothWall.org "Express" that's free also. Russ |

I've looked at those others, but what intrigued me about this one was
that it was pretty comprehensive, and seemed to put together a pretty clean interface (in fact perhaps too clean as I keep looking for all the deep techie stuff and it's pretty hidden). But that should be good for that small client who wants to maintain some of the simple rules, etc. themselves. Don't know yet, but still looking at it. Matt Ridings - MSR Consulting |

It was "Cute" looking..
But I don't like "CUTE" things necessarily. (Anymore) It's what's inside that counts. Russ |

Well I figure they either spend too much time on Fluff and not enough of
Function or Not enough of Fluff and Too much unknown Function. I personally like a Mix of Fluff and Function... Balance :) Russ |

Is my newsreader going bezerk, or are the MS news servers going bezerk? Or,
is something else going on? Quite a few replies from Matt appear to be in the wrong thread. It's hard to tell, because the original posts are stripped out and it's impossible to tell what is being replied to. It doesn't seem to be affecting anyone else, so perhaps it's on your end, Matt? Whatever it is, it needs fixing. |
