No, but switching back and forth between them will necessitate a check by Firefox to see if all extensions are supported. When going from FF2 to FF3, this check hangs I think while checking the Chinese or maybe Vietnamese language extensions. I have to click the cancel button, and FF3 then loads. You have to check your icons to see which each one loads, and modify as you want them. I have FF2 on my main toolbar, and FF3 on a secondary. There are things you can do with FF profiles to rearrange things each time you switch versions, described on the Mandriva web site I think, but I have not bothered to go to that much trouble. Your system default browser is set by www-browser, and you may need to tinker with that if it does not provide what you want. And KDE Control Center/KDE Components/Components Chooser/Web Browser has a setting for its default browser. I actually have this set to Epiphany, so if I click on a URL in an e-mail in Thunderbird, I get a browser that will not be still up after entering a login name and password at some site visited earlier. Do keep Firefox 2 on the system if you have the Gnome desktop, as some of the Gnome software piggy-backs on Firefox 2. Cheers! jim b. |

This was with distro repository installs. FF 3 install doesn't remove FF 2 in any buntu's or Mnadriva I've installed it to, and for how to tell the difference between FF 2 icon's and FF 3 is 3 is being named "Firefox Web Browser" and FF 2 is named plain "Firefox" with each FF icon, and in the Internet program group. The add-ons, themes, and other settings and boomarks are being shared or are used with FF3 install. |
