(Followup-to is set to comp.os.linux.misc)
I think these large corporations like FedEx should start migrating away from the idea that there are only two players on the computing desktop, Apple and Microsoft. We sent a message to foxnews.com about their video page not working with Linux and they were receptive to fixing the problems on their site that blocked Linux users. I think we should do the same with FedEx: FedEx.com Says “Not You” to Linux Users? http://blog.eracc.com/2008/05/27/fed...o-linux-users/ Gene (e-mail: usenet0 \a\t eracc \d\o\t com) My latest Blog article: http://preview.tinyurl.com/6nkhsq 'FedEx.com Says “Not You” to Linux Users?' |

They ARE migrating away from it, if they have dropped their former notion that there is only ONE player. So congratulate them on their progress, and then tell them it's still not good enough. :-) |

I've been using Linux and FreeBSD with FedEx for at least 5 or 6 years with minimal problems... certainly no more problems than any Windoze user would have. > We sent a message to foxnews.com about their video page not working > with Linux and they were receptive to fixing the problems on their site that > blocked Linux users. No. Their site has a very slightly updated look and feel lately, but it still works just fine for me. If you had a problem, was it just a bug, or was it intentional on FedEx's part to exclude a certain subset of their customer base? Think man, think. > [..] The file name is just plain BS. FedEx obviously isn't blocking Linux/FreeBSD users as Fox was, so I judge the above as simply a lame ploy to drive viewers to your obviously lame blog. If what you have to say is important enough to link to on Usenet, one would think it would be important enough to put more than just inaccurate teasers (like those oh so large and bad corporations do in *their* advertising.) And, BTW, Claws must REALLY suck, even more than OE! First of all, you've got 8859-1 characters in your subject line (where only 7-bit characters should be, and then you've got Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 for the article body. |

The FedEx site works fine with Linux. Now STFU and go do something useful, which doesn't include the lame activity of "blogging". Fuckin lamer. |

The site does work using Linux. The problem is that there is a popup that keeps telling one the site may not work with the current browser. One has to keep closing that popup to use the Ship Manager. If they want to check the browser for functionality like javascript, that I can understand. But it appears they are checking the operating system and giving the popup based on that. As I state in the article I think they should either include Linux in the check or not check for the operating systems. And I did not and will not read your blog. It's distasteful and nearing the essense of spam to be posting links to it in Usenet. If you want to express yourself then post your thoughts to Usenet. Getting paid by advertisers for page hits generated by Usenet postings is asking for email to be sent to your ISP. |

Most of the hits on our company web log subdomain at this point come from people subscribing to the RSS feed and from other technical web logs that link to ours. I always precede these web log URL posts to USENET with "Article" which is easy to filter out if it offends one for me to post information to USENET about a current Linux related article on our company web log. I suppose I could also add "BLOG" for those who inexplicably hate web logs so intensely. I am not going to consider not posting these URLs to USENET at this point because I believe we offer useful information. > Getting paid by advertisers for page hits generated by Usenet postings is > asking for email to be sent to your ISP. Good thing we don't do this then. We have no advertising revenue being generated from our company technical web log. Of course if you actually looked at thesite you would know this ... but you prefer not to look and make some ass-u-me statement about it. :) I think I have said enough in this sub-thread and can see it devolving from this point.
