From the Windows Help, it says hibernation is upgraded to Hybrid Sleep in
Power Management setting, but i cant see any setting that allows me to turn off my PC and unplug the socket. |

Hybrid sleep is a combination of both sleep and hibernation. When the
computer goes to sleep your system state is contained in the RAM but is also written to the hibernation file. If there is no power outage, the computer starts by using the information contained in the RAM. If the power fails, the system will startup using that which is in the hibernation file. Do you have hiberfil.sys in the root of drive C:? If you do you should be good to go. BTW: I wrote this response, shutdown the computer and then turned off the power to the mains. Upon restarting the computer DID resume from hibernation with the above part of the response intact. |

Hibernation in Vista is the same as it is in Windows XP. Hybrid sleep is
actually a variation of sleep, not hibernation. Hybrid sleep combines hibernation and sleep. For example, if my notebook is plugged in, sleep simply enters the low power state in which memory is retained. If my notebook is not plugged in, sleep puts the computer into hybrid sleep if this is enabled in the sleep section of the advanced settings in power options- the contents of memory are written to disk as they would be in hibernation and then the computer enters standard sleep mode. If for any reason the computer actually shuts down during hybrid sleep - that is, no power to retain the memory, the state of running programs will be restored to memory from disk , as would happen when the computer comes out of hibernation. Be aware that hibernation and hybrid sleep may not be available after running Disk Cleanup - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928897. Tyro .. In fact 'hybrid sleep' doesn't actually exist - the term isn't used anywhere in Vista, as far as I know. Vista 'sleep' is a combination of the old 'standby' and 'hibernate'. SteveT |

Yes, Vista's sleep is XP's standby. Search for "hybrid sleep" in Vista's
Help and Support. Look specifically at "What happened to standby and hibernate". Vista's sleep is not a combination of XP's standby and hibernate; hybrid sleep is. Tyro "Steve Thackery" <nobody> wrote in message news:4068 [..] |

Thanks for all the reply. But i dont see hibrid sleep is usefull to me at
all. I will only need to shutdown the pc and unplug everything, and turn it on when i need and get back where i stop. Only xp hibernate fits my needs. p/s: those vista "supporters" here pls dont condemn me, it is my habit and nature of work. "Tyro" <Tyro> wrote in message news:6400 [..] |

No, you've misunderstood. Vista's hybrid sleep does ALL that XP's hibernate does, but IN ADDITION allows an even faster start up if you don't actually unplug the power. SteveT |

Then can u teach me how to change the setting?
I dont want the sleep function to wait certain time to go to sleep mode. Wat i need is once i MANUALLY "hibernate" it, the system will imediately shutdown in hibernation mode and i can unplug the power. "Steve Thackery" <nobody> wrote in message news:1704 [..] |

Click Start. Click Control Panel. Click System and Maintenance. Click Power
Options. In the left panel, click Choose what the power buttons do. In the same window, you may also click on Change plan settings for the three power plans to change things like the times when things happen. Tyro "_CragTheCode" <cragniceh> wrote in message news:556d [..] |

After i changed it to Hibernate and save, i press the power button in my
cpu. I did not see the "Windows is hibernating" like the xp, the screen just turn black and the light on cpu persist even after few minutes. It just like a normal sleep mode. I then switch off the power and on again, to my astonishment, it says I DID NOT SHUTDOWN PROPERLY........ oh my godness..... "_CragTheCode" <cragniceh> wrote in message news:e556 [..] |

There is only one power button. You may also have a sleep button. They are
two different buttons whether they are physical or software. Tyro "_CragTheCode" <cragniceh> wrote in message news:e556 [..] |

I did not press the Sleep button in my cpu, there is no sleep button.
What do you mean 2 button in software? The is no Hibernation button at all in vista menu. In short, no matter what setting i have done, HIBERNATION DOES NOT WORK AT ALL IN VISTA. It says it can but it never. Funny vista. "Tyro" <Tyro> wrote in message news:4635 [..] |

No, there is no hibernation button. You have to set the computer to
hibernate in Power Options. You are making this far more difficult than it is. I have already explained to to you how to set the desired results in the Power Options. I shall explain no more. Tyro "_CragTheCode" <cragniceh> wrote in message news:ebd2 [..] |

I have ALREADTY TOLD YOU, i made ALREADY change in Power Options as below:
>>>> In the When i press power button, i changed to Hibernate option. >>>> Which power button does it refer to? The one in my cpu or the sleep >>>> button in windows? And then you said : >>> There is only one power button. You may also have a sleep button. They >>> are two different buttons whether they are physical or software. And now you told me "there is no hibernation button". What is in fact you are trying to tell?? Where you want me to press exactly after i have made the setting change in Power Options. (pls pls pls, i have done that follow what you said, i repeat) Do you actually try it your self or you just BELIEVE vista can do it? Then why cant you just tell me how to do (what button you press pysically on your machine or in Vista by using mouse) to put the system in hybernate? Other guys pls help me.
