I really need help fast. I am on a laptop and I am the administrator, no
other users. When I try to Save As, any document, to a CD, (D: drive), it gives me a message saying,"Access Denied", I click OK, and it sends me a message that says, This drive is not accessible, see your administrator. I really need these documents, can anyone help me fast? Many Thanks! |

using window explorer right click on that drive and open properties then
select the recording tab, ensure that the enable cd burning box is checked, if not check it and ok out. "amsmith" wrote: [..] |

Have you tried to copy a file in Windows Explorer by drag and drop? I've
seen situations where either this, or using a CD burning software package will perform the task, even if save-as won't. Doesn't really address the underlying problem, but might get you through your emergency. Can you use a flash drive instead? Mark "amsmith" wrote: [..] |

most likely you can't save directly to cd, you will have to save to the hd
first then copy to the cd. "amsmith" wrote: [..] |

Okay, Thank you so much, I was able to get the documents by copying to cd,
well at least it says files are ready to copy. I am completely stumped on this issue of why can't I save to the cd/rw? Again thank you both for the quick suggestions. I appreciate it. |

To get a file to a CD the file has to be burned by a completely different bit of software. |

To save directly to CD you have to use "Packet Writing" software, the
type of software that also allows you to do things like "Drag & Drop" files to the CD/RW. You really *don't* want to use this kind of software! Files that are written with packet writing software are very prone to being lost or inaccessible when you most need them! In theory packet writing looks like a really good idea but in practice it has a very bad track record, files made with this type of software are only guaranteed to be accessible with the same model of cd writer as the one that they were made on, not a very good thing if you want to retrieve the files on a different computer, or if your older drive fails and you cannot find and exact replacement for the obsolete drive, all of a sudden the files that you made a few years ago, and that you thought to be safe and sound, may be lost or difficult to retrieve. A very bad thing indeed, stay away from packet writing and do as sgopus suggested, copy the files to the hard drive then burn them to the cd with proper burning software. John amsmith wrote: [..] |
