I recently wrote about a problem I am having with PPT 2007 using customized
placeholders. The placeholders, when a bevel is applied, degrade the quality
of the image inside.

See:
http://fleetingglimpseimages.wordpre...e-placeholder/

Has this been reported yet? Does anyone have a workaround?

Hi Rikk,

I'm seeing a very subtle degradation of images when I apply a bevel (this is on straight pictures,
not placeholders). Can you describe the exact steps you used to customize the placeholder so anyone
who's interested can try to repro the same effect?

PPT 07

New File:
Slide Master
Select Content Placeholder
Double Click to bring Up Format Tab
Apply Shape Effects: Bevel : Choose your poison
Close Master View
New slide
Layout : Chose the slide with your modified Content Placeholder.
Insert Picture into Content Placeholder. Comes in Beveled as expected.
Insert Picture without placeholder: Compare. Picture not in placeholder is
sharper-even in center far from bevel effects.
Bevel should not be affecting anything but pixels adjacent to the effect.

How'd you insert the picture into the placeholder, Rikk? Are you filling the
placeholder, or are you clicking the picture icon in the content
placeholder?

It's a content placeholder, not a picture placeholder, right? (Just
checking.)

Asking because I wonder if it's blurred because of aspect ratio issues.
Still need to run through the steps and repro here....

And PPT says "Nuh-uh, nope, nottagonna do 'er"
All the bevel options are grayed out.

I even inserted a new layout, added a content placeholder and tried with it.
SameSame.

What's wrong with my head? ;-)

Echo ... how 'bout you?

works fine here. Using content placeholder on either the slide master or
layout works fine. You won't see the beveled effects until you add the
picture.

2007 SP1 here, too.

Yeah, sure.

I checked here, and, while I can add a bevel effect to the placeholder just
fine, I'm not seeing a whole lot of difference between the placeholder pix
with bevel and the regular pix. (Forgot to try the regular pix with a bevel
added.) I think it's the pix I'm working with, probably.

To recap the phone call: the bevels are grayed out ... can't apply them at
all. Weird.

Ah. AH! The LateNightLightingBolt just hit. I'd been doing some other
testing and had set PPT to stay in compatibility mode. Smack it's little
fingies offa that and wallah ... it's Bevels 'n Butthead all the way.
