I am getting ready to put MOSS 2007 as an intranet into a production
envirionment. I have Server 2008, SQL 2008 and MOSS 2007. I will be
installing a single server as a farm and have a question about how many
service accounts I will need to install and should they all be domain
accounts or can some be local accounts.

Do not use local accounts. Do not use the Single Server Install option. Even
though you are planning on using only a single system for your SharePoint be
sure to do an Adnaced/Complete install option.

Use domain accounts for all your accounts. You should have one account that
is used for the installation and is also used for the Central Administration
account. You should then have additional accounts for your crawler, SSP
application pool, regular application pools, the MySite application pool and
possibly for search. That's at least six accounts. Only one of these will
need any special prepping... the install account. this should be a member of
the local administrators group on the SharePoint server and have DB Creator
and Security Admin rights to SQL.

Hi

You need to plan your service account, (ie) service account for MOSS and
SharePoint service, Use the same account for Database access.
Dedicated account for AppPool and SSP.

Understanding your requirements. you can create one domain user account in
AD, Add the same to local admin in the MOSS server.
Make sure, the service account have DB creator and Security admin role in
SQL server.
SharePoint designed to work only in AD not in Workgroup.

Some good advice already, and the best guidance I have seen on how to do
this as a beginner is here:

http://andreasglaser.net/post/2008/0...-Overview.aspx

It even names the accounts for you.
