I have a 2-node Active/Passive 2003 SP2 cluster, and am moving mailboxes from
the First Storage Group to a new storage group. I've read a lot about how the
SA mailbox doesn't get moved, rather it gets recreated after you delete the
FSG and restart the SA service. But in a cluster what's the best way to do
this?

Should I delete the FSG and then move the virtual server to the other node?
Would this take care of it? I'm just worried about the SA's dependencies and
having the whole thing crash.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi,

You don't delete the First Storage Group, just the 1st database in the FSG.

Once you have removed all user mailboxes in the default mailstore in the
FSG, then yes by all means failover the cluster.

If you take the store offline and delete the edb and stm file and then
remount it, and then failover, the SA mailbox should be recreated there. If
you decided to delete it entirely when the cluster fails over a new
mailstore will be chosen for SA mailbox creation.

You can also just take the Cluster offline and then bring it back online on
the same node for the same effect.

Thank you Oliver. Yes I meant to say 1st mailbox store, not storage group.

It seems the simplest way would be to take the 1st db offline, delete the
..edb and .stm files, then take the Cluster offline and bring it back online.
This should recreate the SA mailbox in my new store, correct?

Thanks for you help!

That's correct yes.

Oliver -
What if I did an offline defrag of the now-empty first mailbox store instead
of deleting it? This should shrink the database while keeping the SA mailbox.
Will having the SA mailbox offline for a long period pose any problems?

Thanks.

rgx,

Sorry didn't see this!

I would say that's a waste of time dude. Delete and recreate
