I like Windows Explorer but there are a few things lacking. I was wondering
if anybody here can recommend an improvement and why they prefer another
program perhaps. I'd especially like it to be able to adjust the columne
width automatically for the widest name in that column. Sometimes you need
all the width in your display space possible and this would help that
situation. Several years ago I think I used something called Total
Commander which was interesting. Surely there are others.

Press Ctrl + Plus key on the numeric keypad auto-sizes all columns

I switched to Firefox about 3 months ago and played with it for a few
days trying to get used to it.

It is now my default browser and I have never looked back!!

The quality of the reactions from "computerhelpforums" is sub-optimal.
:-))

(you use Firefox as an alternative to Total Commander?)

The Firefox users never miss an opportunity to plug their alternative even
if the discussion is on polystyrene manhole covers. They are almost as bad
as Linux-lovers.

I suppose they just dote on a world of cats with warts.

As you noticed, your thread has been "hijacked" to promote FireFox.
This is totally "bogus" as most "readers" see Explorer therefore they
will recommend Firefox as a replacement to Internet Explorer.

The problem with most Windows, since at least Windows 98, appears that
Microsoft has developed Internet Explorer and decided to link it as
the Windows Explorer. You might not find a better replacement to
Windows Explorer because of this.

I have owned Total Commander since Win98 days. Worth every penny.

Some people use free FMs. A couple are nearly as good.
Alt.comp.freeware will be happy to point you to them.

Hi Will,

Some misinterpreted "Windows Explorer" and thought you were asking about
Internet Explorer (I don't know how, but I'll give them the benefit of
the doubt).

I use the paid version of PowerDesk. There is a free one that may give
you everything you need:
