I have a 160Gb hard disk that I had as my primary master and a 40Gb a
my primary slave. I'd installed the 160Gb 3 months ago and for reason that even I don't understand now, I'd partititioned that disk into 5 one of the partitions was for 100Mb. That was called my F drive and m Windows xP was installed on my J drive (which had 20Gb). Yesterday, th J Drive was getting full and so I tried to clean it up. While I wa doing that, I noticed that I had a s/w called Paragon Partition Manage on my external hd (K drive) and thought I'd use it to see how it works In the process of experimenting, I deleted the F drive since it was onl 100Mb. Later in the evening, when I tried to restart my computer, i wouldn't work. It kept asking me to put in my XP cd to reload th operating system. I put in the CD and it eventually got me to the optio of installing my OS. It showed me all the partitions and said that don't have Windows xP installed. But, when I tried to install xp on on of the other partitions, it wouldn't work. I could also not load it int the J drive (which now was called the H drive). I kept getting an erro saying that I don't have an xp-compatible disk. It asked me to delet partitions and recreate them, but nothing worked. I'm wondering if this is all because my drive letter was changed from to H. I tried getting into the Recovery console, chkdisk worked fine; i trie fix mbr and that seemed to do something, but the computer still won' boot. I'd like to backup all my information from the Recovery console but it doesn't show the relevant directories although it shows that only have 4Gb left in that drive. So, there is some information that can't see. Any suggestions on what I should do. I'd truly appreciate any hel folks can give. cheers, Juiy |

First, one needs to physically unplug all other hds when installing xp,
deleting or putting other partitions in a "raw" state would'nt hurt if they exist on C: drive..For now,re enter recovery console, type: DiskPart In DiskPart,i'd delete all, then create one, press ESC key, type:EXIT Reboot to xp cd,reinstall xp..Haveing other letters set to the OS than C: is a mistake from the begining..... You're probably FUBAR'd. |
