I tried to create a new site deffinition using VS2008. It went wrong. If I
now goto Central Administration/Application Management/Create site
collection, an entry appearsunder the Tab that I defined. I deleted the files
from the 12 hive hierachy so there are no physical files left on the system.

How do I delete the entry that still shows?

Thanks

Hi Js,

Regarding on the custom site definition, since you're using the VS project
template to create it , it have automatically helped you created the site
definition template files and option entries(appear in the "create site"
UI).

As you mentioned that you have manually delete the files in 12 hive, do you
mean the site template folder under the following path?

12/TEMPLATE/SiteTemplates

Actually, there is another configuration used together with the
siteTemplate folder to make a custom siteDefinition available to sharepoint
server. That is the webTemp*.xml file under the following path:

12\TEMPLATE\1033\XML

there will exist a configuration element in one of the webtemp*.xml file
for your custom siteDefinition and you will have to remove that entry so as
to make the site definition completely deleted.

You can refer to the following articles which mentioend how to add a custom
siteDefintion manually(including all the files you need to deploy and
modify). You can do the reverse operations according to them.
