I've done something very silly. I tried to download messages from this
newsgroup that are older than the oldest listed in my Outlook Express (i.e. before November 2009), and managed to lose them all. Is there a registry value or something I can change to tell my PC to re-download the old messages? Regards, Roger. |

Right-click on the newsgroup node in the tree list, select Properties, and somewhere under there you will find a Reset function. That wipes away all the posts and any tracking of previously downloaded posts. If you want to download all posts again, also disable the option to only download N messages at a time. |

MSNews only keeps messages on their server for 90 days. Reset the group to
get all up till then. While in a newsgroup: View | Current View. Make sure Show All Messages and Group Messages By Conversation are checked. Tools | Options | Read. Uncheck: Get XXX headers at a time. Then, right click on the newsgroup in the Folder Tree | Properties | Local File | Reset. Switch to another folder and then back and all available messages will be downloaded again. Or go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Clean Up Now and choose the group, or server at the top and then Reset. It would be a good idea to compact your folders when you're done. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. My personal preference is to disregard synchronizing and rather have OE check for news when it checks for mail. Tools | Accounts | News. Check: " Include this account...........". |

Thanks Bruce - all posts now visible again. And yes, I will be doing a
compaction very soon. The reason I was searching through the newsgroup (and accidentally lost everything - doh!) was that I have a question about compaction and wanted to check recent posts about it. But I'll start a new topic about that. Thanks again, Roger in Phuket. "Bruce Hagen" <BRH> wrote in message news:4636 [..] |
