I can't turn off sounds in Excel 2002, especially that nerve-wrackin
air-raid warning. I tried turning off sounds in Tools-->Options-->General (by no checking the "provide feedback with sound" box), but that doesn't d anything. [When I do check it I get a message that I don't have M Office Sounds installed.] The ControlPanel-->Sounds...-->Sounds doesn't even mention Excel! What gives? Any help is appreciated! TIA. --Ir |

Hi Irv!
Don't blame Excel. It's a Windows setting. Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio devices Sounds Tab Select the event that annoys you From the drop down of sounds select "none" [it's up the top] Apply |

Hi Norman,
Thanks for the tip. Trouble is, "Excel" doesn't show up in the lis presented by "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio devices > Sound Tab". Another service (ClipMate) shows the file Phaser.wav, which removed. I'm hoping that that's what Excel has been using, and that i will therefore stop:rolleyes: --Ir |

For me to get sounds, I had to download sounds.exe (IIRC) from the MS site and
then install it. If you did this and you really want to remove the sounds from all of Office, you could use: windows start button|settings|Control panel|Add remove programs look for Microsoft Office Sounds But when I toggled "provide feedback with sound", excel respected my choice. Maybe it's not excel. "irvnr <" wrote: [..] |

Hi Irv!
There's nothing specific in the Sounds section but there are general events that Excel will use. Try removing them one at a time. |

Hello! :)
Looks like the MVP has hit another homer! I removed phaser.wav from the ClipMate entry in "Start > Settings Control Panel > Sounds and Audio devices > Sounds > Tab", and lo! i went away from Excel! Many thanks, Norman!:) --Ir |

Hi Irv!
It's the sign of a misspent youth! I once replaced all of the Microsoft sounds with sounds from the Simpsons. Somehow I felt more at home with "Doh!" "Barnie Gumbles" and "Eat my shorts!" |
