This problem got around 2500 hits in Google and one hit in this discussion
group. None of the posted solutions solved it for me:
------------------
Computer A on a LAN has an mdb with tables in it. Computer B runs Access.
Both computers use Office 2002 running on Windows XP. When I try to link the
program on Computer B to the files on A, Computer B can see the mdb on the
shared folder in A, but when I try to open it for linking, I get the message
"Access cannot open this file. This file is located outside your intranet or
on an untrusted site."
On Computer B, I can run Word 2002 and open any doc file in the shared
folder on A, edit and change it, and save it. Windows explorer lets me do
anything I want in A's folder, including delete, rename, copy, etc.
I don't know if this matters: the Tables.mdb file on A is in Word 2000
format. If I copy this tables.mdb file onto B, Access on B can readily link
to the tables on its own C drive, but this is useless to me because I need
network access to A.
I tried two solutions:
1. On the A computer, right-click the file with the tables and uncheck the
security message box. I couldn't find this box.
2. Get into the "Trusted sites" window on Computer A and add the network
name of the computer B ("CMAYHEW"), and be sure the "Require server
verification" box is unchecked. I did that. I also then rebooted Computer
A. No luck.
Thanks. Frustrated in New Jersey (but aren't we all?).

One more thought. Do I have tghis bass-ackward? I had thought that it was
Computer A (that has the tables) that wouldn't let Computer B's Access
program link to them. Is the problem that Access on B doesn't trust A? And
should I have tried all these fixes on B rather than A, that is, telling B
that A is an OK site?

If your app is on B and the data is on A, then B has to trust A.

Hi Peter,

Think you 'got it' - If the file is on A then B has to be trusting A. A
needs to be sharing the folder, but you appear to have that part working
according to your description.
